Federal Reserve Barkin: Tariffs will start to push up inflation
Online reported that Federal Reserve Balkin said on Thursday that tariffs are likely to push up inflation in the coming months. "I do believe prices will come under pressure," Balkin said. Speaking of tariffs and their impact on price pressures, he said,"So far, these increases have had little impact on a measure of inflation, but I expect more pressures to come." But he said the impact on inflation was not expected to be as severe as it had just been experienced, and there were signs that consumers would try to abandon goods subject to tariffs. Balkin pointed out that the Fed faces risks in both its job and inflation tasks. "Given the strength of today's economy, we have time to patiently track developments and allow visibility to improve," he said. We are ready to respond to any needs of the economy. Given the current state of the economy, things look pretty good."
