Onvo, a sub-brand of Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO), has started offering compensation to customers to alleviate their concerns about increasingly long vehicle wait times.

The move is primarily aimed at retaining customers of the L90 flagship large electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), but it also applies to the L60 mid-size SUV.

If, due to Onvo's reasons, L90 customers do not receive delivery within 4 weeks after locking in their orders, the brand will compensate customers with 500 credit points per day starting from the 29th day, the Nio sub-brand announced today on its mobile app.

The 500 points are equivalent to RMB 50 ($7) and can be used for purchases in the Nio App or Onvo App online store.

Onvo officially launched the L90 on July 31 and began deliveries of the SUV the following day on August 1. Currently, the six-seat version is being delivered, with the seven-seat version set to begin deliveries in late September.

Customers who have ordered the six-seat L90 are expected to receive their vehicles 8-10 weeks after locking in their orders, according to information on the Onvo App.

Since its launch, the Onvo L90 has gained widespread recognition, with over 4,000 units delivered since deliveries began on August 1, the brand said today.

Due to the rapid surge in orders, delivery times for some orders may still be slightly longer than expected, despite Onvo having made adequate production preparations in advance and working closely with supply chain, manufacturing, and logistics partners to increase capacity, the company said.

"We will continue to work hard to accelerate production and deliver your vehicles as soon as possible," Onvo said.

Meanwhile, Onvo emphasized that customers who locked in orders for the L60 after July 1 will also be eligible for the compensation if the wait time exceeds four weeks, the brand said.

The estimated delivery date for the Onvo L60 is 4-6 weeks after order lock-ins, according to information from the Onvo App.

The move is aimed at thanking all customers and demonstrates Onvo's confidence in its delivery capabilities, said Shen Fei, the brand's president.

The Onvo L90 has become one of the best-selling large SUVs in China, primarily due to vehicles produced before its official launch.

The model registered 2,093 insurance registrations during the week of August 4-10, ranking second in weekly sales of large SUVs behind the Huawei-backed Aito M8 with 3,690 units, according to a report by local automotive media outlet Yiche yesterday.

The Aito M8 is currently only available in extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options, with its BEV variant set to launch later this month.
