Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has completed a 24-hour endurance test for its new P7 with a record-breaking performance, demonstrating the electric sedan's powerful mechanical capabilities and endurance.
The new P7 achieved a driving range of 3,961 kilometers in the test, setting a new record for the longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle in 24 hours, Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said today on Weibo.
This surpassed the 3,944 kilometers driven by Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) YU7 electric SUV in the same test at the end of June.
The test involves driving a pure electric vehicle continuously at a speed of 210 kilometers per hour for 24 hours, including charging time, and recording the final mileage.
Xpeng completed the test in Changchun, Jilin, in northeastern China between 9:02 am on August 14 and 9:02 am on August 15.
Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, said on June 28 that the test was a comprehensive challenge to the vehicle's power, charging, durability, and reliability, equivalent to participating in a marathon at sprint speed.
In a similar test in 2019, the Porsche Taycan traveled 3,425 kilometers, and in 2024, the Mercedes-Benz CLA achieved 3,717 kilometers, according to Lei.
This test is of great significance to Xpeng, as it verifies that the overall core system capabilities of the P7 are sufficiently robust, Mr. He said on Weibo today.
The difficulty of the entire project exceeded the team's expectations, and they had to delay the test due to heavy rain and fog, he noted.
Xpeng originally planned to conduct the test on August 13, but it was postponed by one day due to heavy rain that caused flooding on the track.
After Mr. He announced the new P7's results, Xiaomi's congratulated the company on Weibo, saying that the new record was remarkable.
More manufacturers are welcome to participate in the 24-hour endurance challenge for pure electric vehicles to jointly promote the development of the automotive industry, Lei wrote on Weibo.
Xpeng debuted the new P7 and began pre-sales of the electric sedan on August 6, but did not announce the pre-sales price. The company aims to officially launch the model later this month.
Xpeng previously said that the new P7 is targeting the RMB 300,000 ($41,780) market.
However, the starting price of the model will clearly not exceed RMB 300,000, considering that the starting price range for Xpeng's other mid- to large-sized electric sedan, the P7+, is between RMB 186,800 and RMB 208,800.
Yesterday, Xpeng shared several images on Weibo showing that the new-generation P7 will have a variant with scissor doors, just like its predecessor.
