Binance hired a close friend of Trump's eldest son to lobby the White House and paid its company $450,000 in the past month
On October 25, politico reported that North Carolina lobbyist Ches McDowell, the hunting partner of Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is becoming one of the most profitable lobbyists in Washington. Its company, Checkmate Government Relations, has generated $7.1 million in revenue in the past three months alone, and the company just opened an office in Washington earlier this year. According to the disclosure report, Binance hired McDowell in late September to lobby for the White House and Treasury Department on financial policy issues and "administrative relief" matters. Binance paid Checkmate $450,000 for its work over the past month. However, CZ's campaign to seek amnesty lasted well beyond a month. As early as February this year, three weeks after Trump was sworn in as President of the United States, Binance and CZ himself hired well-known cryptocurrency lawyer Teresa Goody Guillén respectively. Trump had considered appointing her as chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Her law firm reports that it has received a total of $290,000 in fees from Binance and CZ so far this year. Neither McDowell nor Goody Guillén responded to requests for comment.
