According to online reports, Ross Calvin, founder and CEO of mining company Parhelion, proposed to build a "The Great Colossus of Prometheus" on Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a height of about 450 feet (about 137 meters). The total investment is expected to be approximately US$450 million. If completed, the statue will exceed the height of the Statue of Liberty (about 305 feet from the base to the torch), meaning it will become a new landmark in the San Francisco Bay Area. To advance the project, the federal government needs to approve the reclassification of Alcatraz Island from a national park to a national monument and obtain relevant planning and construction permits.
