ZachXBT: Innocent researcher was mistakenly arrested, and the real murderer of the BAYC NFT theft was someone else
Cyberspace reported that crypto investigator ZachXBT said law enforcement agencies had "mistakenly detained" suspects in the 2022 theft of $1.4 million from Bored Ape NFT. ZachXBT said it had identified the wallet associated with the fraud and linked it to a now-deleted X account. In 2023, former Yuga Labs security researcher Sam Curry was arrested at the airport in connection with the case. "It is regrettable that a security researcher was detained when in fact a stronger lead already existed as to who might be responsible," ZachXBT pointed out. He also said Curry used a private key embedded in the website's JavaScript during the investigation. ZachXBT used online money flow tracking to identify a more likely person involved in the case and called on law enforcement to investigate its social media and online transaction data.
