Second federal court suspends Trump's tariffs, White House agenda is hit again

Internet reports that a federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from imposing tariffs on two toy importers in Illinois, the second court in two days to reject Trump's top strategy for a trade deal. "The International Economic Emergency Powers Act does not authorize the President to impose tariffs specified in four executive orders issued by Trump earlier this year," Judge Rudolf Contreras of the District Court of Colombia in Washington said in a ruling. The ruling ordered a preliminary injunction on tariffs imposed on the two plaintiffs. Lawyers for the U.S. Department of Justice had previously urged Contreras not to grant the companies 'injunction requests, saying it would act like a "magnet" to attract thousands of other companies to challenge the tariffs. Judge Contreras also said the tariffs were not in compliance with the law and decided to suspend the order for 14 days so that both parties could appeal to the court.
