The LuBian mining pool was stolen and lost 127,000 BTC in 2020. Hackers still control assets and become the 13th largest BTC holder in the world."
According to online reports, according to Arkham, LuBian, a mining pool that once ranked among the top ten in the world, suffered a major security incident in December 2020. A total of 127,426 BTC items were stolen, with a value of US$14.5 billion based on current currency prices, making it the largest bitcoin theft in history. Arkham said LuBian was a former China mining pool with mines in China and Iran. In May 2020, it controlled nearly 6% of the entire network computing power of the Bitcoin network and has significant industry influence. The attack occurred on December 28, 2020. The attacker suspected of using a loophole in his private key generation algorithm to successfully steal more than 90% of the positions through brute force. The next day (December 29), the hacker transferred part of the BTC again, with an amount of US$6 million. In addition, LuBian once tried to plead with hackers through online OP_RETURN information to request the return of stolen assets. Officials sent a total of 1,516 transactions with messages, costing a total of 1.4 BTC, further confirming that the incident was not a counterfeit act. Currently, LuBian still retains 11,886 BTC (approximately US$1.35 billion), and the hacker's last on-chain behavior was an address integration in July 2024. As of the disclosure date, the hacker still controls the stolen BTC and his identity is unknown. His position has ranked the 13th largest BTC holder in the world, even exceeding the Mt.Gox hacker address.
