EU spokesperson: U.S. lifting of rules on the proliferation of artificial intelligence is a welcome move
Internet reports that European Commission spokesman Thomas Rainier said the Trump administration's decision to cancel the so-called artificial intelligence proliferation rule, which places a cap on how many advanced artificial intelligence chips some countries can purchase, is a welcome development. "We are pleased that the U.S. government recognizes that rules on the proliferation of artificial intelligence will harm U.S. diplomatic relations with dozens of countries," Rainier said. The U.S. Department of Commerce is repealing the rule on the grounds that it would stifle innovation, place heavy regulatory burdens on companies and undermine diplomatic relations. Renier said that lifting the EU's restrictions on purchasing advanced artificial intelligence chips from the United States is in line with the economic and security interests of the United States.
