According to online reports, payment technology company Stripe announced a partnership with Visa to launch a stablecoin-linked credit card service through Bridge, a stablecoin platform it acquired in October 2024 for US$1.1 billion. Initially, it will be launched in Latin American countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Chile, allowing users to directly use the balance of stablecoins to spend at Visa merchants. Bridge is responsible for handling the exchange settlement of stablecoins and fiat currencies. By integrating stablecoins-digital currencies pegged to stable assets such as the U.S. dollar-Stripe and Visa aim to promote faster and cheaper cross-border transactions, especially in areas with underdeveloped payment infrastructure.
