Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) will launch a special edition of its ET9 executive flagship sedan at Saturday's Nio Day 2025 event, alongside the launch of the third-generation ES8 SUV (sport utility vehicle).

The electric vehicle (EV) maker announced the plan today via its mobile app, without providing further details about the ET9 special edition.

Nio Day 2025 will take place tomorrow in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The main event will begins at 7:00 pm Beijing time, with the ET9 special edition launch scheduled for about 7:35 pm and the third-generation ES8 around 7:50 pm.

This ET9 special edition should be the two-tone painted ET9 Horizon Edition mentioned by Nio two months ago.

On July 16, Nio shared several images of this ET9 variant on Weibo, stating it incorporates the brand's signature elements into the vehicle's design.

"The Horizon Edition is a special version of Nio's flagship model, conveying the vision of 'Blue Sky Coming' while offering a more sophisticated design and product experience," Nio wrote in a poster at the time.

The ET9 Horizon Edition features a two-tone paint scheme combining blue and silver, along with exclusive wheel designs.

Earlier on July 16, a regulatory filing on China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website revealed Nio had applied to add two-tone paint, new wheels, and a "Horizon" badge option to the ET9.

The ET9 was launched at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 788,000 ($110,800) including the battery pack. Deliveries commenced in late March this year.

On August 19, Nio reduced prices by RMB 20,000 for all 100-kWh long-range battery models, lowering the base price of the standard ET9 to RMB 768,000.

Beyond the standard variant, the ET9 also offers a Signature Edition, currently priced starting at RMB 788,000.

The ET9 represents Nio's foray into the ultra-luxury market and ranks among the highest-priced models from a domestic automaker.

The sedan delivered 92 units in August, bringing cumulative deliveries to 2,065 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
