Warning: U.S. Treasury Department's XRP wallet-related fraud spreads on social media
According to online reports, Zach Rynes, Chainlink community liaison officer, posted a reminder on the X platform: "This is the latest example of the proliferation of false information in the XRP community. This time, we found a fake KYC account from the Philippines pretending to be the U.S. Treasury and issuing fake tokens on XRPL." Scam posts related to the U.S. Treasury's XRP wallet spread quickly as soon as they were released, and multiple popular X accounts forwarded it. The fake wallet allegedly interacted with major institutions such as Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase, but on-chain analysis showed it was located in the Philippines, meaning that a non-U.S. account apparently activated the fake Treasury wallet. Rynes said trained people could immediately spot red flags in this incident, but "it's hard to know how to resolve a social media scam like this."
