China Sept EV battery installations: CATL holds 42.81% share, BYD 21.07%

CATL (HKG: 3750) and BYD (HKG: 1211) both saw their market shares rise in China's electric vehicle (EV) battery market last month, while smaller players generally declined.
China's power battery installations reached 76.0 GWh in September, marking a 39.5 percent year-on-year increase and a 21.6 percent rise from August, according to data released Tuesday by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
CATL installed 32.51 GWh of power batteries in September, maintaining its top position with a 42.81 percent market share -- up 0.47 percentage points from August's 42.35 percent.
BYD ranked second with 16.00 GWh of battery installations in September, holding a 21.07 percent market share. This represents a 0.22 percentage point increase from its 20.85 percent share in August.
CALB was third with 5.60 GWh of battery installations in September, accounting for 7.38 percent of the market. Its share decreased by 0.68 percentage points compared to August.
Gotion High-tech ranked fourth in September with 4.42 GWh of installations and a 5.83 percent market share, down 0.05 percentage points from August.
Eve Energy ranked fifth in September with 3.11 GWh of installations and a 4.10 percent market share, down 0.29 percentage points from August.
China's ternary lithium battery installations reached 13.8 GWh in September, accounting for 18.2 percent of total installations. This represents a 5.2 percent year-on-year increase and a 26.5 percent rise from August.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries recorded 62.2 GWh of installations in September, accounting for 81.8 percent of total installations. This represents a 50.4 percent year-on-year increase and a 20.5 percent rise from August.
CATL, CALB, and LG Energy Solution ranked as the top three suppliers for ternary battery installations in September, holding market shares of 69.80 percent, 10.31 percent, and 9.64 percent respectively.
In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and Gotion led installations in September with shares of 36.82 percent, 25.76 percent, and 7.07 percent.
China's total production of power batteries and other batteries reached 151.2 GWh in September, marking a 35.4 percent year-on-year increase and an 8.3 percent rise from August.
Ternary battery production in September totaled 31.5 GWh, up 16.1 percent year-on-year and 2.2 percent month-on-month.
LFP battery production reached 119.4 GWh in September, rising 41.6 percent year-on-year and 9.9 percent month-on-month.
China exported 17.6 GWh of power batteries in September, comprising 10.7 GWh of ternary batteries and 6.8 GWh of LFP batteries.
