The New Hampshire Department of Finance warns residents to be wary of bitcoin fraud calls posing as government officials

Online reports, according to Bitcoin.com, on May 13, the New Hampshire Department of Finance issued an announcement reminding residents to be wary of Bitcoin fraud calls posing as government officials. The fraudster used a forged official telephone number to falsely claim that the victim's identity was stolen and induced him to transfer money through Bitcoin to "protect funds." The State Department of Finance emphasized that government agencies will never require payments or transfers in the form of Bitcoin, and recommended that people immediately hang up when receiving such calls and report them to the FBI Cybercrime Complaint Center. The warning was issued one week (May 6), New Hampshire had just passed the country's first "Strategic Bitcoin Reserve" bill, allowing state finances to allocate up to 5% of public funds to Bitcoin and other crypto assets with a market value of more than US$500 billion.
