GAC Group (HKG: 2238) and Huawei's new joint brand Qijing has appointed an industry veteran as CEO and shared development progress on its first model.
Liu Jiaming, with over 25 years of automotive industry experience, has been formally appointed as Qijing CEO. A ceremony was held in the presence of Huawei rotating chairman Eric Xu and GAC chairman Feng Xingya, according to a statement released today.
Liu will be fully responsible for the Qijing brand's strategy, product planning, market expansion, and operational management.
His career spans roles at GAC Toyota and GAC Group, covering automotive sales, product planning, investment strategy, and technical management.
During his time at GAC Toyota, he spearheaded planning for flagship models like the Highlander and Camry while implementing structural reforms in sales operations.
The company highlighted Liu's cross-functional expertise and proficiency in resource integration across cultural environments.
Liu subsequently posted his first Weibo as Qijing CEO, announcing the brand's inaugural model had completed summer testing in Xinjiang, successfully enduring extreme high-temperature challenges.
GAC and Huawei teams began deep collaboration early on, dedicating full efforts to create a new vehicle surpassing imagination, he said.
On September 19, GAC officially unveiled the Qijing brand targeting the premium EV market.
GAC established an independent company to operate the Qijing brand, while Huawei dispatched its talent to participate in the project, the automaker said at the time.
GAC will place Qijing at the highest priority, concentrating superior resources to ensure the brand's long-term development, it stated.
Qijing vehicles will be equipped with Huawei Qiankun's most advanced intelligent technologies, GAC said.
