BYD Denza adds new variants to D9 MPV, lowering starting price

BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand Denza rolled out several new variants for its D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) on the opening day of the 2025 Chengdu auto show, lowering its starting price.
Denza launched four new variants for the model, including three plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants and one battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant.
The new Denza D9 PHEV variants start at RMB 309,800 ($43,450), RMB 329,800, and RMB 459,800. The new BEV variant starts at RMB 319,800.
For comparison, when the new D9 was launched in December 2024, the PHEV variant started at RMB 339,800 and the BEV variant at RMB 379,800.
The newly added PHEV version features BYD's fifth-generation DM technology, with a powertrain comprising a 1.5L engine and an electric motor delivering a maximum power output of 115 kW.
The PHEV variants are equipped with 40-kWh battery packs, offering CLTC ranges of 200 km or 190 km. With a full tank and fully charged battery, the combined range reaches 1,100 km or 1,020 km.
The new D9 MPV BEV variant features a 103-kWh BYD Blade Battery, delivering a CLTC range of 620 km.
The D9 is the inaugural model of the new Denza brand. The MPV debuted in August 2022 and commenced deliveries in October of the same year.
Beyond the D9, Denza's current lineup includes the N7 SUV (sport utility vehicle), N9 SUV, and Z9 sedan series.
Denza sold 11,375 units in July, marking a 10.01 percent year-on-year increase but a 27.93 percent decrease from June, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Denza's July sales comprised 8,331 units of the D9 MPV, 816 units of the Z9 series, 2,104 units of the N9, and 124 units of the N7.
