Jump Crypto proposes lifting Solana block computing cap

According to online reports, Jump Crypto's Firedancer team recommended removing the upper limit of units of calculation (CU) for Solana blocks after the Alpenglow upgrade, so that the block capacity can expand with the performance of the verification node. High-performance nodes can process more transactions and earn more revenue, while low-performance nodes use the skip-vote mechanism to automatically skip large blocks. Alpenglow will also reduce the final block confirmation time from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds and improve network resilience and data optimization. Wattenhofer, director of research at Solana development firm Anza, supports the idea but warns of possible centralization and network stability risks.
