ByteDance's bean buns performed most prominently in this round of growth.
According to the latest data from research firm QuestMobile, as of the end of November 2024, the overall monthly active user size of China's AIGC APP has exceeded 100 million, doubling compared with June 2024.This growth trend reflects the rapid popularization of AIGC technology in the China market and the significant improvement in user acceptance. In this rapidly developing market, the performance of leading companies is particularly eye-catching, and industry resources and user traffic are accelerating to gather into a small number of leading applications.
Doubao, a subsidiary of ByteDance, performed most prominently in this round of growth. Its monthly active users reached approximately 56 million in November 2024, accounting for nearly half of the industry's monthly active users. The user growth curve of Doubao is extremely steep, doubling from the 27.51 million monthly active users at the end of June 2024.This growth is not only due to ByteDance's strong investment in technology research and development and marketing, but also closely related to its continued efforts in user experience optimization and scenario expansion.
In addition to bean buns, Wenxin Yanyan, a subsidiary of Baidu, and Kimi AI, developed by Dark Side of the Moon, have also joined the camp with more than 10 million monthly active users.Among them, Kimi smart assistants have a particularly rapid growth momentum. The app's monthly active users at the end of June 2024 were only 4.59 million, but by November it had reached about 22 million. The rapid rise of Kimi's smart assistant is mainly due to its excellent long text processing capabilities and strong financing support.Dark Side of the Moon has received more than US$1 billion in investment in 2024 and its valuation continues to rise, which provides sufficient financial support for its R & D and marketing.
At the same time, although Baidu's Wen Xiaoyan has maintained a scale of tens of millions of monthly active users, his growth momentum is relatively insufficient. This may be related to the challenges it faces in market competition, especially the need for further optimization in terms of user stickiness and scenario expansion.
It is worth noting that the rapid differentiation of the AIGC market has also led to a decline in the user size of some applications. For example, the number of monthly active users of TianGong APP developed by Kunlun Wanwei dropped from 5.6 million at the end of June 2024 to about 4 million at the end of November. This trend shows that the competitive landscape in the AIGC market is rapidly consolidating, the living space of tail applications is being squeezed, and some applications have even been eliminated by the market.
From the overall perspective of the industry, the application scenarios of AIGC technology in China continue to expand, covering many fields from social and entertainment to office and education. However, with the development of the market, the problem of homogenization of AIGC APP has gradually become prominent.Head applications need to further focus on core user groups, optimize user experience, and consolidate competitive advantages through innovative market positioning.
In addition, the commercialization of the AIGC industry still faces many challenges. At present, the charging model for domestic AIGC applications mainly focuses on content output fees and subscription/membership fees, but new business models need to be explored urgently. In this context, companies need to find a balance between technology research and development, user experience optimization and business model innovation to achieve sustainable development.
