Leapmotor debuts Lafa 5 hatchback in Germany, begins pre-sales in China

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) unveiled the Lafa 5 at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, Germany today, and began pre-sales of the hatchback in its China home market.
The automaker has not announced a pre-sales price for the Lafa 5 in China. Customers paying a RMB 99 ($14) deposit now can receive exclusive limited-time benefits.
Leapmotor will officially launch the Lafa 5 in China in the fouth quarter this year, with deliveries of the hatchback commencing in the first half of 2026. Global sales of the model will begin in 2026.
The Lafa 5 is a sporty hatchback tuned by Stellantis' European team, with Leapmotor aiming to position it as the "Dream Car" for young people worldwide.
Stellantis announced a €1.5 billion investment in Leapmotor in October 2023, acquiring about 20 percent equity to become the EV maker's largest external shareholder.
The Lafa 5 measures 4,430 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm.
The model will position Leapmotor within the fiercely competitive electric hatchback segment, competing against vehicles including the Volkswagen ID.3, SAIC MG4, BYD Dolphin, and Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO) Firefly EV.
The Lafa 5 is larger than Firefly's sole current model, the Firefly EV, which measures 4,003 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width, and 1,557 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm.
Beyond the Lafa 5's debut, Leapmotor today officially launched its B10 compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) in Europe.
Priced between RMB 99,800 ($14,000) and RMB 129,800 in China, the B10 starts at €29,900 ($35,050) in Europe.
Leapmotor's current lineup in China includes the T03, B10, B01, C01, C10, C11, and C16.
The T03, B01, and B10 are available only as battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while the other models also offer extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.
Leapmotor delivered 57,066 vehicles in August, marking its fourth consecutive month of record-high deliveries.
This is the second time Leapmotor has surpassed the 50,000-unit monthly delivery milestone, representing an 88.31 percent year-on-year increase and a 13.84 percent rise from July.
Since the start of this month, Leapmotor has secured 14,556 locked-in orders, Zhu Jiangming, the company's founder, chairman, and CEO, said earlier today.
