Trump: Agreed to extend the deadline for trade talks with the EU to July 9

Internet reports that U.S. President Trump said that the EU has requested an extension of the window for trade negotiations and has agreed to extend the deadline to July 9. Earlier, European Commission President Von der Leyen said on Sunday after speaking Mandarin with Trump that the EU is ready to move forward with trade negotiations with the United States "quickly and decisively", but needs Trump to return to his originally set 90-day negotiation period. This was the first publicly disclosed phone call between the two leaders since Trump took office. In April this year, Trump suspended the initial 20% tariff on the EU and began a 90-day negotiation window, which was originally scheduled to end on July 9. Von der Leyen's office confirmed that she contacted Trump on the initiative. Von der Leyen's words suggest that the European Commission's position may shift towards seeking a potential compromise.
