U.S. Department of Justice seals more than $2.8 million in cryptocurrency in ransomware case
According to Internet reports, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Thursday that it had issued seizure orders in courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, Central California and the Northern District of Texas, seizing approximately US$2.8 million in cryptocurrency, US$70,000 in cash and a luxury car in the wallet involved. Prosecutors accused Ianis Aleksandrovich Antropenko of using ransomware to attack individuals, businesses and institutions around the world, stealing data and demanding ransom, and some of the funds were laundered through ChipMixer, a cryptocurrency service that was banned in 2023.
