China NEV retail up 16% year-on-year to 1.31 million in Sept, preliminary CPCA data show

China's new energy vehicle (NEV) retail sales accelerated last month as the market entered its peak season.

In September, China's passenger NEV retail sales reached 1.307 million units, up 16 percent year-on-year and up 17 percent month-on-month, according to preliminary data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

By comparison, China's passenger NEV retail sales in August totaled 1.101 million units, representing a 7.5 percent year-on-year increase.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV retail sales reached 8.88 million units, up 24 percent year-on-year, according to the CPCA.

China's passenger NEV wholesale sales in September totaled 1.489 million units, a 21 percent increase year-on-year and a 15 percent rise from August.

Year-to-date, China's cumulative passenger NEV wholesale sales reached 10.43 million units, up 32 percent year-on-year.

In September, China's total passenger vehicle retail sales reached 2.239 million units, up 6 percent year-on-year and up 11 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date, China's total passenger vehicle retail sales have reached 17 million units, up 9 percent year-on-year.

This indicates that China's NEV retail penetration rate stood at 58.5 percent in September and 52.2 percent year-to-date.

During the first week of September, September 1-7, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales were 43,483 units, down 10 percent year-on-year and down 4 percent month-on-month.

In the second week of September, September 8-14, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales were 61,142 units, up 1 percent year-on-year and 15 percent month-on-month.

During the third week of September, September 15-21, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales reached 65,386 units, marking a 9 percent year-on-year increase and a 10 percent rise compared to the same period last month.

In the fourth week of September, September 22-27, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales totaled 97,631 units, reflecting a 2 percent year-on-year decrease but a 19 percent increase compared to the same period last month.

During the fifth week of September, September 28-30, China's average daily passenger vehicle retail sales reached 154,530 units, a 43 percent increase year-on-year and a 48 percent increase compared to the same period last month.

Total wholesale sales of all passenger vehicles in China for September reached 2.77 million units, an 11 percent increase compared to the same period last year and a 12 percent increase compared to the same period last month.

From September 1-7, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger vehicles were 43,908 units, down 5 percent year-on-year but up 9 percent compared to the same period last month.

From September 8-14, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger vehicles were 66,634 units, down 1 percent year-on-year but up 26 percent compared to the same period last month.

From September 15-21, China's daily average wholesale sales of passenger vehicles reached 76,426 units, up 6 percent year-on-year and 13 percent month-on-month.

From September 22-27, China's daily average wholesale sales of passenger vehicles reached 132,397 units, up 2 percent year-on-year and 15 percent month-on-month.

From September 28 to 30, China's daily average wholesale sales of passenger vehicles reached 222,360 units, up 57 percent year-on-year and up 37 percent month-on-month.

Year-to-date wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in China reached 20.81 million units, a 13 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
