Arcfox, the electric vehicle (EV) unit of Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), has previewed its first extended-range EV, becoming the latest EV maker to join the ranks of manufacturers developing such models.
Arcfox will debut the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant of its new Alpha T5 SUV (sport utility vehicle) later this month, featuring CATL's (HKG: 3750) Freevoy Battery as standard, the company announced yesterday.
This will be Arcfox's first extended-range model and the inaugural vehicle equipped with BAIC's Shenqing extended-range system.
CATL launched the Freevoy Battery in October 2024, capable of delivering over 400 kilometers of battery range for hybrid vehicles while supporting 4C fast charging.
To date, multiple EV makers including IM Motors have introduced models featuring the Freevoy Battery.
The all-new Alpha T5 EREV boasts a battery range of 215 kilometers, with a combined range of 1,215 kilometers when fully fueled and charged, according to Arcfox.
It supports fast charging, capable of charging from 30 percent to 80 percent in 15 minutes.
The vehicle measures 4,760 mm in length, 1,936 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm.
This is 70 mm longer than its battery electric vehicle (BEV) counterpart, with all other dimensions identical.
The powertrain delivers 200 kW peak power and 360 Nm peak torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.
Arcfox said the Alpha T5 EREV achieves 40 percent engine thermal efficiency, 95 percent generator efficiency, and a fuel-to-electricity conversion rate exceeding 3.5 kWh/L.
Under WLTC standards, the model consumes 5.18 L of fuel per 100 km and 16.5 kWh of electricity per 100 km.
Arcfox ranks among China's earliest EV startups. While it reported monthly sales figures in 2020, the company has rarely disclosed sales data since 2021 amid weak performance.
Its most recent model launch occurred just one month prior, launching the T1 compact EV on September 11 with a starting price of RMB 62,800 ($8,800).
The currently available Alpha T5 BEV ranges from RMB 119,800 to RMB 167,800.
($1 = RMB 7.1353)
