- The extended-range X9 will kick off Xpeng's EREV product cycle, followed by extended-range G7 and G6 SUVs, and extended-range P7+ sedan.
- The X9 EREV will offer a 450-km battery range, with a combined range of up to 1,600 km when fully fueled and charged.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will unveil its extended-range X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) in October, formally kicking off its strategy in the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) segment.
He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, announced the plan today on Weibo, saying the X9 EREV will be the world's longest-range new energy seven-seater.
A poster he shared reveals the X9 EREV will be built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform, supporting 5C charging rate like other Xpeng models.
The model boasts a 450-kilometer CLTC battery range and a combined range of up to 1,600 kilometers when fully fueled and charged, according to the poster.
Mr. He said that Xpeng has invested over 1,000 test vehicles for the X9 EREV in cumulative testing spanning 800 days, covering 20 countries and 330 cities.
The X9 has accumulated over 20 million kilometers of testing, enduring extreme conditions including sub-zero temperatures, high heat, and high-altitude environments, he added.
"We hope the extended range of the Xpeng X9 Super Extended Range Edition will extend the warmth of home to even greater distances," Mr. He wrote.
The X9 was launched in China on January 1, 2024, marking Xpeng's first MPV model.
Last month, the EREV variant of the X9 appeared in a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalog and Xpeng said at the time that the model would be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
The 7-seat MPV measures 5,316 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm, according to its filing information.
It is longer than the all-electric Xpeng X9's 5,293 mm length, while other dimensions remain identical.
The MPV is equipped with a 1.5L engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine serving as the range extender, delivering a maximum power output of 110 kW.
It utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CALB, the filing shows.
Xpeng introduced its Kunpeng Super Electric System in November 2024, claiming vehicles equipped with this system would achieve a combined range of up to 1,400 kilometers, with battery-only range reaching 430 kilometers.
The X9 EREV will be the first in Xpeng's lineup of EREVs.
Last week, the extended-range G7 SUV entered the MIIT's catalog, with Xpeng subsequently announcing the G7 EREV will be launched in the first quarter of 2026.
The G7 EREV will utilize an 800-volt high-voltage platform architecture and a large battery supporting 5C ultra-fast charging, delivering up to 430 km of battery range, Xpeng said.
Local media outlet Cailian reported last week that Xpeng will launch the extended-range version of the P7+ electric sedan in 2026 and it will feature a battery supporting 5C charging rate, with an expected range of 400 kilometers.
In July, spy photos of the extended-range G6 SUV began circulating on Chinese social media.
