Republican congressman: Milan may not make it to next week's Fed meeting

Trump's nomination of Milan as a Fed governor is expected to clear a key hurdle in the Senate on Wednesday, but lawmakers said it may still be too late for Milan to vote at next week's Fed meeting. "I think it's going to be very challenging," said Senator Loomis, a Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, on the logistics of whether Milan's appointment will be confirmed before the September Fed meeting. Even rolling out new programs will take a lot of time." She was referring to possible changes Republicans are seeking to make to the nomination process. The Finance Committee is expected to vote on Wednesday to decide whether to advance Milan's appointment to the full Senate. Democrats are expected to unanimously oppose it, but Republicans should pass it with a 13 - 11 majority on the committee. It is not clear at present the timing of the voting in the whole house. A Senate Republican aide said Milan's nomination could be confirmed as early as next Monday. (Jin Shi)
