Online reports that the U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil forfeiture lawsuit against Bitcoin (BTC) worth more than $5 million, and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced that the funds were allegedly ill-gotten gains from multiple SIM card exchange attacks targeting victims across the United States. The indictment alleges that the funds can be traced to the theft of cryptocurrency wallets and unauthorized cryptocurrency transfers of the five victims, which occurred between October 29, 2022 and March 21, 2023.
