BYD Yangwang hikes U9 electric supercar price by 7% to $252,630

BYD's (HKG: 1211) ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang has raised the price of its U9 electric supercar, in contrast to pricing strategies adopted by other brands within the group.
The starting price for the Yangwang U9 was adjusted today to RMB 1.8 million ($252,630), marking an increase of RMB 120,000, or 7.14 percent, from the previous RMB 1.68 million.
Chinese customers ordering the electric supercar between October 1 and December 31 will receive benefits including a 6-year or 150,000-kilometer vehicle warranty and 8 years of free maintenance.
Launched in China on February 25, 2024, the two-seat Yangwang U9 ranks among the most powerful cars built by a domestic Chinese automaker, serving as a showcase for BYD's technological prowess.
It features four motors, each delivering a peak power of 240 kW, resulting in a combined peak power of 960 kW (1,287 horsepower).
This powertrain enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds.
In August 2024, the Yangwang U9 achieved a top speed of 375.12 km/h during track testing. Two months later, in October, the electric supercar tested at 391.94 km/h.
In late August, a Yangwang U9 test vehicle set a new global EV top speed record at 472.41 km/h.
On September 22, Yangwang debuted the U9 Xtreme and opened reservations for a limited global run of 30 units.
The U9 Xtreme employs a more powerful drivetrain, with each motor delivering a peak output of 555 kW. The four motors collectively provide 2,220 kW (2,977 horsepower).
The U9 Xtreme achieved an officially certified top speed of 496.22 km/h at Germany's ATP test track, making it the world's fastest production vehicle, Yangwang announced last month.
Yangwang currently also sells the U8 SUV (sport utility vehicle) and U7 sedan in China.
Yangwang sold 758 vehicles in September, marking a 144.52 percent year-on-year increase and an 87.16 percent rise from August, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
September sales included 5 U9s, 280 U8s, and 473 U7s.
