Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Firefly today rolled out a new limited-edition variant of its sole current model, the Firefly EV, following its first such attempt in August.

The new variant, Night Creature Special Edition, starts at RMB 136,800 ($19,170) including the battery pack, with deliveries set to begin on October 23.

The price exceeds the starting prices of RMB 119,800 and RMB 125,800 for the two standard versions, as well as the RMB 133,800 starting price of the limited-edition Nomadic Maillard variant, which was launched on August 25 with only 333 units available.

Under the BaaS (Battery as a Service) plan, the Firefly EV Night Creature Special Edition starts at RMB 96,800 with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399.

The new special edition variant features an exclusive black paint finish, white decals, and white alloy wheels.

It comes with an exclusive g-force handling kit, incorporating specially engineered red high-stiffness springs for a more pure driving experience.

The new variant also includes an exclusive NFC card that illuminates the logo when unlocking the vehicle.

Firefly launched the Firefly EV on April 19, its sole model currently available for purchase, with deliveries in China commencing on April 29.

The Night Creature Special Edition represents Firefly's new exploration into vehicle playability.

On August 25, the Nomadic Maillard Special Edition Firefly EV went on sale, selling out all 333 available units within 30 hours.

Introducing new variants helps generate buzz around the vehicle while avoiding substantial marketing expenditures.

In China's fiercely competitive EV market, a new model's popularity typically sustains for only a few months post-launch before sales decline.

Firefly currently focuses on selling its sole existing model and appears to be achieving solid results.

The Nio sub-brand delivered a record 5,775 units in September, a 32.88 percent increase from August's 4,346 units.

Firefly would not launch a second model in 2026, Nio management said during a September 2 earnings call.

Firefly's production capacity was expected to reach up to 6,000 units per month in the fourth quarter, the company's management said.
