Bitcoin transactions become the core focus of high-profile homicides in New Zealand

A New Zealand woman accused of murdering her elderly mother was suspected of having carried out a cryptocurrency "exit scam" a few days before the incident, withdrawing thousands of dollars through forged transaction proceeds, while losing more than US$40,000 on investments in cryptocurrencies and bitcoin the previous year, the Internet reported. Julia DeLuney is on trial in Wellington's High Court on suspicion of murdering her 79-year-old mother Helen Gregory. The case occurred on January 24, 2024 at Gregory's residence in Khandallah. Prosecutors accused Deluni of faking the scene to make it look like her mother fell from the attic and died, but forensic experts determined that the deceased's multiple blunt trauma to the head and other fatal injuries did not match the characteristics caused by the fall.
