New York court grants bail for two Bitcoin kidnapping suspects
Two suspects accused of kidnapping and torturing Bitcoin traders to obtain their keys, John Woeltz and William Duplessie, have been granted bail by a New York court, the Internet reported. The two men were charged with 12 counts, both pleaded not guilty, were each released on a US$1 million bond and will be subject to electronic surveillance and required to surrender their passports. Suspects Woeltz, known as the "King of Cryptography of Kentucky," are accused of abducting an Italian crypto trader from Woeltz's Soho mansion and subjecting him to torture including threats with guns, assaults with stun sticks and chain saws, and pouring wine and lighting it. The two also allegedly threatened to kill the victim's family. Although prosecutors said there was evidence that the two men had committed similar behavior, Judge Gregory Carro believed that there were many credibility issues and decided to grant bail while continuing to review the evidence.
